Multi-Location Businesses & Franchises
Multi-location businesses can find funding at each of their sites. Some city storefront grants have a limit per property, so each address may qualify on its own. Energy rebates may apply to the lighting, HVAC and refrigeration at each building. Training grants may help with staff at every site. Size limits may count the whole company, and some programs exclude franchises and chains. We check which programs are open at each location, explain the rules and deadlines, and send deadline alerts. You apply on the official program site.
Common costs
Costs funding can help with
Storefront work at every address
Signage, lighting and facade repairs add up across several sites. City storefront grants differ by city, and some set their limit per property.
Energy bills at every site
Each location pays its own energy bill. In some provinces, energy rebates may pay part of the cost of efficient lighting, HVAC and refrigeration at each building.
Training staff at each location
Every new site needs trained staff. Training grants may pay part of the cost, and wage subsidies may pay part of the wages for summer hires.
Opening the next location
A new site needs renovations, equipment and working capital. Loans under the Canada Small Business Financing Program may pay for leasehold improvements, equipment and the cost of buying a franchise. These are loans, so you pay them back.
Funding paths
Where to start, in order
- 01
Fix up each storefront
City storefront and facade grants may pay part of the cost of signage, exterior lighting, awnings and windows. Check each city separately, because amounts, areas and intake dates differ.
- 02
Cut energy costs at each site
Provincial and utility energy rebates may help pay for efficient lighting, HVAC and refrigeration. Check the rules for each building separately.
- 03
Train staff across locations
Training grants may pay part of the cost of training staff at each site. Size limits may count employees across the whole company.
- 04
Pay for the next location
Government-backed loans may pay for leasehold improvements, equipment and franchise costs at a new site. Compare the loan terms before you apply.

Frequently asked questions
Can funding apply at more than one of our locations?
Sometimes, but it depends on how each program counts. Some programs count the business once, no matter how many locations it has. Some city grants count each address or each property. Employee or revenue limits may count the whole company. We check each location separately and explain the differences. You confirm the details with each program before you apply.
Can a franchise or chain get funding?
Some programs, yes, and some, no. Ontario's Retail Modernization Project Grant, for example, excludes franchises, corporate chains and businesses with three or more locations under one brand. The Canada Small Business Financing Program, on the other hand, lists the cost of buying a franchise as an eligible loan cost. Read each program's rules on business type before you apply.
