Local funding options
Newfoundland and Labrador's main small-business funding comes from a few programs. The provincial Business Growth Program, run by the Department of Jobs, Growth and Rural Development, puts up non-repayable contributions of up to 50% of eligible costs to a maximum of $200,000 for productivity, commercialization and sales projects. On the energy side, takeCHARGE rewards efficiency work with a rebate of $0.10 per kWh of first-year savings up to $100,000, plus $500 for every kW of peak demand you cut. Both pay you back after the work is done, so plan the project and check the rules before you spend.
Downtown St. John's runs a matching facade grant that reimburses half your cost, up to $3,000 per site or $4,000 on a corner, covering exterior work and signage. ACOA's Business Development Program offers interest-free repayable contributions of up to 50% of capital costs. CBDC's Innovation and General Business Loans reach up to $150,000 for technology and growth. These funds can pay for equipment, technology and storefront work.
You apply on each official program site. We show which programs fit and send deadline alerts.
