Is this for you?

  • You own a street-level commercial business in Toronto
  • You are planning exterior facade, storefront, or signage upgrades
  • You can secure approval before starting any work or spending money

Probably not the right fit if

  • You are located outside Toronto or outside the eligible CIP/BIA area
  • You have already started or completed the improvement work
  • Your property does not face a public road

How much you'd realistically get

For example, on a $10,000 eligible project, that's up to about $5,000 back.

Up to $12,500 (50% of eligible costs), + $2,500 for accessibility

What may be supported

  • storefront signs
  • awnings/canopies
  • exterior & security lighting
  • masonry cleaning/restoration
  • doors & windows
  • exterior painting
  • AODA accessibility (ramps, door openers)

  2. 02Get the city's written pre-approval BEFORE starting
  3. 03Complete the approved work
  4. 04Submit your costs for reimbursement

Documents commonly required

  • Photos of the current storefront
  • Proof of property ownership or owner's consent

How BBN Labs helps

  • BBN designs and coordinates qualified partners for high-impact storefront signs that grab attention and drive foot traffic, with the grant covering up to half the cost.
  • BBN coordinates trades for awnings, exterior lighting, and masonry restoration to refresh your building's look and make your business stand out on the street.
  • BBN plans AODA accessibility upgrades like ramps and door openers so you capture the extra $2,500 bonus while making your store easier for everyone to enter.
  • BBN guides you through the application and deadlines so you don't lose the funding.

What to know before you count on it

  • Cost-share: you pay for the work first, then the city reimburses its share (about half) after it's done and inspected.
  • Apply and get approved BEFORE you start any work or buy anything — starting early disqualifies most of these.
  • Commercial street-level properties facing a public road in Toronto. Confirm your address qualifies before you spend.
  • Municipal funding is limited each year — confirm money is still available.

What are your odds?

Area-gated and funding-limited, but a straightforward fit if your Toronto address qualifies and you apply before starting.
