Ottawa Heritage Property Grant Program
Get up to $10,000 back to restore your heritage storefront in Ottawa. This is a matching cost-share, so you pay for the work first and get reimbursed after inspection. Note: this intake is currently closed, so monitor for the next one before planning. Applications are closed right now and we watch for reopening.
“The maximum heritage grant is $10,000, for small-scale buildings, and $35,000 for large-scale buildings subject to the availability of funding.”

How applying works
Effort: mediumA city application with quotes/photos; approval before you start, then claim after completion.
- 01Confirm your property is in the program area and funds are available
- 02Get the city's written pre-approval BEFORE starting
- 03Complete the approved work
- 04Submit your costs for reimbursement
Documents commonly required
- Quotes/estimates for the work
- Photos of the current storefront
- Proof of property ownership or owner's consent
What to know before you count on it
- Cost-share: you pay for the work first, then the city reimburses its share (about half) after it's done and inspected.
- When it reopens, apply and get approved BEFORE you start any work or buy anything. Costs from work started early may not be paid back.
- The property must be in the City of Ottawa. Confirm your address qualifies before you spend.
- Your building must be designated/registered under the Ontario Heritage Act (most ordinary storefronts won't qualify).
- Municipal funding is limited each year. Confirm money is still available.
What are your odds?
This program is closed right now. When it reopens, it is only for designated heritage buildings in Ottawa, and grants depend on how much funding is available, so check your building's heritage status before you plan work.
